Today has to be my favorite day of the workshop. I love hearing all the ideas that other teachers use and have discovered during this workshop. Not only did I get to share what I know about Smartboards, I heard the experiences others have had with Smartboards.
I’m excited about the many ways that I could use podcasts! I confess that I really didn’t know what a podcast was prior to this workshop. I noticed that many news organizations had podcasts available, but I hadn’t taken the time to check them out. I’m interested in the possibility of posting podcasts to my webpage for homework and projects just as a start. I want to go home and get started on some things to use this fall.
I’m amazed just how much technology we all use. Great job class!
Reflection – Wednesday
What a day. I taught elementary summer school this morning and then dashed up to MO West at lunch time. Yes, after once again spending time with the little people I respect elementary teachers even more. After catching up on the morning activities I settled down to work on our group project and to update my blog – which would have been a whole lot easier if I could’ve remembered my G NUMBER! So that was frustrating. But, my blog is updated and I watched several fun movies and read blogs about how everyone gets here. That was fun!
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s presentations. I hoping to pick up a few more kernels to use in my classroom. Back to work…
I am really excited about learning how to use Movie Maker. I can see the students catching on and running with this as evidenced by Lisa’s student work samples. I was also surprised that once I started it wasn’t that hard to put together and edit. Before I knew it my movie about my Toyota Prius was finished complete with music and my narration. Really fun stuff!
I also enjoyed time to search the web for interactive whiteboard resources with my group. I’m wondering how much time we will have and if there will be a whiteboard available or not. That changes how and what we will do. I am looking for a program similar to Inspiration – only free. I like it, but I want something free that all my students can use. Anyone know of such a thing?
My first experience with blogging came due to an incident in the area we live that ended up being blogged about on a KC news blog. The individual who posted had been misinformed. The blog was brought to me attention and I was horrified to read it. It was completely untrue. Blogs to me seemed a forum to spread whatever gossip you wanted. I did not have a b impression of blogs – until today. Now the wheels are turning in my head. I can see how I could use a blog for my journal reflections in my forensic science class. I think this could be a positive way to get kids to comment about issues they may not verbally share in class. I would, however, want strict controls on the blog. I would only want my students and not the outside world commenting on their work.
Stoic Saguaro
Today my name is Roxanne Lea.
The one with a boisterous laugh,
quick temper and tender heart.
But, tonight when I sleep
it will be Stoic Saguaro.
She listens quietly to those around her.
Ruminating over and solving the problems of the day.
Even tempered.
She is less like the jackrabbit,
more like the tortoise.
Empowered, deliberate in her ways.
